James Lister Dies Friday; Rites Tuesday

James W. Lister, 77, formerly of 1016 N. 4th Ave. E., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Friday evening at the heritage Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. William E. Sexton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, assisted by ken Kobza, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Masonic services conducted by the Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59 AF and AM will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at the Wallace Funeral Home, Paul Craven will serve as lecturer.

Master Masons are asked to be at the Temple at 7 p.m. today.

Survivors are his wife, Madge; several cousins, including Mrs. Verlin (Lois) Carter of Monroe, Delbert Stover of Monroe, Mrs. Virgil (Helen) Miller of Kellogg, Dale W. Long of Charlotte, N.C., and Harry Stover of Adel.

He was preceded in death by his parent and a sister, Anna.

Mr. Lister was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59 AF and AM, Nazareth White Shrine of Jerusalem, Newton Chapter 100, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mr. Lister, a building contractor, had worked at the Jasper County Savings Bank as a young man.

The son of Wilson and Maude Lee Lister, he was born May 31, 1901 at Newton.

He was married to Madge Eaglin Mar. 24, 1935. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1978
