Arliegh G. LaRose

Arliegh Glenn LaRose, 70, of 812 E. 8th St. S., a resident of Newton for 50 years, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 1, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Todd Schlitter, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Vernadine; a son, Richard A. LaRose of Newton; a daughter, Lynda Howell of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Louis Calvin LaRose of Springfield, Mo., and J. T. LaRose of Urbana, Mo.; and two sisters, Mae Munn of Urbana, Mo., and Cleta "Shorty" Green of Urbana, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. LaRose, a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He had worked in southwest machining at the Maytag Co. prior to retiring June 30, 1985.

The son of Lewis Melton and Ina Payne LaRose, he was born Aug. 27, 1920 in Urbana, Mo., and was a 1939 graduate of Urbana High School.

He was married to Vernadine Romona Stikney April 8, 1942 in Bethany, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
