Boyd Ladd

Boyd Ladd, 74, of 810 E. 9th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1947, died Sunday morning, July 28, at Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Alice M.; two sons, Virgil Chance of Newton and David Ladd of Colfax; three daughters, Mary Annette Ruth of Johnston, Cheryl (Mrs. David) Funk of Newton and Toni (Mrs. Rick) Sayrs of Spencer; seven grandchildren; and a half-brother, J.J. Ladd of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister.

Mr. Ladd was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the National Ballroom and Entertainment Association and the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union.

Mr. Ladd, who had served in the Army during World War II, retired from the Maytag Co. in 1976 for which he had been employed as an inspector in quality control.

The son of John J. and Mary Gelespie Ladd, he was born Sept. 26, 1916 in Winterset and attended Winterset schools.

He was married to Alice M. Humes Sept. 3, 1955 in Papillion, Neb. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1991
