OBITUARY

Jacob Spencer departed this life at his home in Colfax, Iowa, September 21st, 1884, just 23 days after his brother, Rev. John Spencer, entered into rest. He was born February 1851, in Cambria county, Pennsylvania. He was converted and joined the M. E. Church in January, 1851, in which he lived a consistent, working christian until death. Later in life he received the blessing of entire sanctification. From that time he testified the blood of Christ cleaneath from all sin. He held offices in the different places where he lived. He was anxious to do all the good he could and he was loved by all that knew him.

He passed away so gently that S. W. Spencer, his brother, of Winterset, who was watching him, could scarcely tell when he ceased to live.

Appropriate funeral services were held on the 23d last, conducted by Brothers Vinson and Sheaver. His remains were interred in the cemetery at Colfax.

Transcriber's note: Typed as printed in Madisonian. Either the date of birth or date of joining church is not correct.

Transcriber note: According to the Colfax Cemetery Book, his date of birth was 6 feb 1815 and date of death was 21 Sep 1884
