MONROE - Funeral services for Wesley M. Swihart, 68, 109 W. Zickel, Monroe, who had resided in Monroe for 27 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Reese Chapel in Newton.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the Newton First Christian Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe with military graveside services.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Swihart died Monday morning at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Robert and Greg, both of Newton; and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Bill of Stone City, S. D., Elwin of Newton and Gary of Wicomico, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Connie, and there brothers.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Swihart was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 in Newton.

He farmed in Minnesota, worked for the Homestake Mining Co., in Lead, S.D., and retired in 1988 after 19 years at Vermeer Manufacturing Co. in Pella.

The son of Morris and Metha Griebel Swihart, he was born April 2, 1923 in rural Newton.

He was married to Dorothy Diers March 25, 1944 in Clinton, Minn. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1991
