Robert Lester, 77 of Newton died of complications of diabetes Monday at Newton Health care Center, where he was a resident two years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. Cremation will follow, with burial at Westview Cemetery in Prairie City at a later date.
Mr. Lester was born in Colfax and returned about four years ago after 50 years in Prairie City. He was a retired farmer and school bus driver and a member of the Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Doris of Newton; a son, Jerry of Newton; two brothers, Durlyn of Colfax and Leland of Princeton, N.J.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jim DeBoef Scholarship fund at his church. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995

The Rev. Thomas Carpe, pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Burial will be held at a later date at the Westview Cemetery near Prairie City.
Memorials to the Jim De Boef Scholarship Fund will be accepted.
Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Doris; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Marilyn of Newton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Durlyn of Colfax and Leland of Princeton, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Lester, a farmer in the Prairie City community for nearly 50 years, had been a school bus driver for 26 years.
A member of the Howard Street Christian Church, he was an elder of the church and had served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher and was a former chairman of the church board.
The son of Samuel and Myrtle Ulrich Lester, he was born Aug. 10, 1917 in Colfax and was a 1936 graduate of Colfax Community High School.
He was married to Doris Mc Cuen Jan. 1, 1940 in Bedford. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
