Clarence L. Wells Sr.

DES MOINES - Clarence Lewis Wells Sr., 84, of Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines, a former resident of Newton, died Monday, June 7, at the care center of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Wednesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are six sons, Clarence Jr. and Robert, both of Eldon, John of Colfax and Larry, Steven and Dennis, all of Newton; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Stella, May 22, 1958.

Mr. Wells, who retired in 1972, had been employed by the White Sod Co., of Des Moines as a foreman.

The son of John and Elizabeth Fisher Wells, he was born Nov. 28, 1908 in Albia.

He was married to Stella V. DeNato Dec. 26, 1929 in Oskaloosa.

Mr. Wells had resided in the Albia area until moving to Newton in 1942. He moved to Des Moines in 1964. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1993
