LYNNVILLE - Funeral services for Edith Schooley Watson, 87, a former resident of Lynnville, were held Monday, Dec. 6, at the Lynnville Friends Church.

The Rev. Marvin Miller and the Rev. Larry Naylor conducted services.

Burial was in West Liberty Cemetery near Searsboro.

Memorials to Camp Quaker Heights may be left at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon.

Mrs. Watson, who taught for 26 years in rural schools as well as in Searsboro and Grinnell, died Thursday evening at the Friendship manor Care Center in Grinnell, where she had resided for four years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Margaret of Oskaloosa and Robert and Ethel of Glidden; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Floyd Snook of Searsboro, Marilyn Sparks of Lynnville, Addie Mae and Carl Criswell of Lincoln, Neb.; and Maxine and Larry Naylor of Rock rapids; 25 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford Leroy, July 27, 1977, a son Richard Leroy in February, 1987, and six brothers, Earl, Ralph, Floyd, Clark, Leslie and Everett Schooley.

She was a former member of the Searsboro Community Church, for which she taught Sunday school for many years, and attended the Lynnville Friends Church after moving to Lynnville.

Mrs. Watson was also a member of the Lynnville Women's Club, the Grinnell-Newburg Educational Association and the National Education Association.

The daughter of James and Sarah Addie McKune Schooley, she was born Dec. 29, 1905 near New Sharon.

She was a 1924 graduate of new Sharon Community High School and a 1981 graduate of William Penn College in Oskaloosa.

She was married to Clifford Leroy Watson June 25, 1929 near New Sharon. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1993
