MONROE - Funeral services for Myra Isabelle Valentine Visser, 72, of Harvey, a former longtime resident of Monroe, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Monroe United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Jane Schroyer, pastor of the Harvey Assembly of God, and Sister Elizabeth De Greef of Newton, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after noon Friday and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Monroe United Methodist Church or the John Stoddard Cancer Fund will be accepted.

Mrs. Visser died Wednesday at the Pella Community Hospital.

Survivors are her husband, John; 11 children, Darlene Palm of Bondurant, Judy Brungardt of Newton, Alice Kapping of Rockford, Martha Faye Nicholson of Knoxville, Shirley Caberea of Mason City, Chuck Rankin of Monroe, Margaret Ball of Roanoke, Texas, Jerald Rankin of Knoxville, Dean Rankin of Pella, Roberta Ford of Monroe and Carolyn Moses of Alamosa, Colo.; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Maurice Valentine of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Bernard Valentine of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, brother, a granddaughter, two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Visser was a member of the Monroe Methodist Church.

The daughter of Mark and Millicent Shaw Valentine, she was born Dec. 20, 1920 in Kimball, S. D., and at the age of five moved to Monroe with her parents.

She was a 1938 graduate of Monroe Community High School.

She was married to Harold Rankin and after his death in 1981 to John Visser Sept. 28, 1988.

The couple resided in Harvey after their marriage. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1993
