Bernard Van Wyngarden

PELLA - Bernard Van Wyngarden, 89, of Pella, formerly of Jasper County, died Saturday, June 12, at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Monroe.

Memorials to the Monroe First Baptist Church will be accepted.

Friends may call at the Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Vivian of Monroe and Doyle and Helen of Reasnor; three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Donald Van Der Pol of Monroe, Ila and Bruce Walker of Monroe and Linda and Steve Hewitt of Monroe; a sister, Wanda (Mrs. Leonard) Steward of Cedarvale, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Iona, Feb. 4, 1973, second wife, Opal, Jan. 21, 1986, two sisters, Lois Broderson, and one in childhood, a brother, Wilbur, and a grandson.

Mr. Van Wyngarden, a former farmer, was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church.

The son of John and Lura Rohrdanz Van Wyngarden, he was born April 23, 1904 near Galesburg and attended Galesburg area schools.

He was married to Iona Ruth Crane Jan. 12, 1927. The couple farmed in the Monroe area. Following her death he married Opal Wilson Oct. 3, 1973 and they resided in Monroe.

Mr. Van Wyngarden had resided in Hilltop South in Pella for the past seven years. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily news, June 1993
