SULLY - Funeral services for Hattie Van Hal Van Soelen, 88, of Sully, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, were held Monday, Nov. 8, at the Sully Christian Reformed Church.

The Rev. Lawrence J. Howerzyl conducted services. Burial was in the Sully Cemetery.

Memorials to the radio ministry broadcasts, Back to God Hour or Words of Hope, will be accepted.

She died Friday at the skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Survivors are five sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Gladys of Killduff, Case and Leona of Sully, Marion and Janice of Hull, Frank and Karen of Sully and Bob and Marilyn of Killduff; five daughters and sons-in-law, Jennie and William Branderhorst of Newton, Gertrude Van Hoelen of Waverly, Martha and Alfred Weg of Mitchell, S.D., Henrietta Terpstra of Bully and Betty Nikkel of Laurel; and 30 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, Oct. 17, 1984.

The daughter of Geunt and Jenneke Bruxvoort Van Hal, she was born Jan. 31, 1905 on a farm south of Sully, attended Andreas County Grand School and was a member of the first graduating class at Sully Christian Grade School in Sully.

She was married to Marion Van Soelen Jan. 6, 1927 at Sully.

The Van Soelens farmed in the Killduff and Sully areas until 1981 when they moved to the Sully Retirement Home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1993
