Elizabeth Town

PRAIRIE CITY - Elizabeth Kane Town, 89, a lifelong resident of the Prairie City community, died Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Clearview Manor in Prairie City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax.

Father Edward Susic, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

Memorials to the Elizabeth Town Scholarship Fund will be accepted.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Town, who taught in Polk and Marion County rural schools, is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol of Lake Jackson, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Doyle Van Wyngarden of Reasnor; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry, and two children in infancy.

Mrs. Town was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax.

The daughter of Bernard and Katheryne Mulcahy Kane, she was born June 23, 1904 in Percy.

A graduate of Pleasantville Community High School, she attended St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines and William Penn College in Oskaloosa.

She was married to Harry Town June 23, 1932 in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News
