Funeral services for Dale R. Swedlund, 59, of 2209 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1963, were held today, May 17, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The Rev. Ernest Braida, parish priest of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.

Wake services were held Sunday at the church and rosary services were held today at the church.

Memorials to the Sacred heart Catholic Church will be accepted.

He died Friday morning at his home of cancer.

Survivors are his wife, Mary L.; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sue of Milford, Neb.; two grandchildren; a brother, Robert of Paton; and a sister, Doris Swedlund of Carmichael, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Diana Swedlund Sept. 13, 1987.

Mr. Swedlund, an Army veteran, was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers.

He had been state sales manager, Newton area, for Moorman Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1990.

The son of Floyd R. and Ollie Stromberg Swedlund, he was born March 5, 1934 in Boone and was graduated from Stratford High School.

He was married to Mary Streb June 9, 1958 in Webster City.

Mr. Swedlund had resided in Boone, Stratford and Hampton prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1993
