Charles M. Sprague

WHEATON, ILL. - Charles Merton Sprague, 80, of Wheaton, Ill., formerly of Jasper County, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Central DePage Hospital in Winfield, Ill., following an extended illness.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Gary Memorial United Methodist Church at 224 N. Main St., Wheaton.

Memorials to the Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, Ill., the Community Nursing Service of Carol Stream, Ill., or the Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton may be sent to Hultgren Funeral Home Ltd., 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Ill., 60187.

Survivors are his wife, Ardyce; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dennis Ketterhagen of Wheaton, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Chris of Schaumburg, Ill.; two grandsons; two brothers, Raymond of Newton and James of Tubac, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.

Mr. Sprague had been a school administrator and teacher at New Providence, Forreston, Ill., Sterling, Ill, and Springdale, Ark.

Mr. Sprague had served as a lieutenant (junior grade) in the United States Naval Reserve during World War II.

The son of Ralph and Rebecca Elizabeth Butler Sprague, he was born march 4, 1913 in Newton. He attended Newton Community schools, was a 1939 graduate of the University of Iowa at Iowa City and did graduate work at Northern Illinois University at De Kalb and Colorado State University at Fort Collins.

He was married to Ardyce M. Ringgenberg Aug. 24, 1940 in Nashua. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1993
