Ward A. Sparks

LA PORTE CITY - Funeral services were held Monday, June 14, for Ward A. "Sparky" Sparks, 72, of 207 Sycamore St., La Porte City, a former resident of Lynnville, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Graveside military rites were conducted by the La Porte City American Legion Post 207 at West View Cemetery.

Huisman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sparks died at his home recently.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia Mae; four sons, Don of Dysart, Dennis of Waterloo and Dwain and Danny, both of La Porte City; three daughters, Donna Jackson and Debra Mehlert, both of La Porte City, and Dorothy Pippert of Dysart; and eight grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Carl and Kermit, both of Ottumwa, and Bruce of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Marilyn Tarr, of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and a brother, Robert.

The son of Harold and Dorothy Bedell Sparks, he was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Lynnville.

He was married to Mabel Milne June 7, 1946 in Dysart and, after her death in 1960, to Patricia Mae Peters Aug. 26, 1961 in La Porte City.

A member of the army during World War II, he was the custodian at the La Porte City School before his retirement in 1981. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1993
