OTLEY - Max Schuttinga, 65, of Rt. 1, Otley, a former resident of Prairie City, died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 4, at his home.

Funeral services were held today at Prairie City Christian Reformed Church.

The Rev. Barry Whitlow, pastor of the Federated Fellowship in Pella, conducted services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.

Van-Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials to the Federated Fellowship will be accepted.

Mr. Schuttinga had been in the bulk oil business in Prairie City and operated the Conoco Station in Prairie City for 21 years. Later he worked for Vermeer Manufacturing Co. in Pella for 19 years and, following his retirement worked part-time at The Village Cleaners in Pella.

Mr. Schuttinga, a member of Federated Fellowship in Pella, was a former member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mary E.; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Vicki of Pella; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Van Wyk of Wilton; three step-children and their spouses, David Eugene and Patricia Van Wyk of Wilton, Darlene and Vern Uitermarkt of Monroe and Danny Wayne and Lori Van Wyk of Monroe; six grandchildren; and five-step grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Arthur W. of Pella and J. Lee of Wheaton, Ill.; and a sister, Joan Van Wyk of Highlands Ranch, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys, his mother, May 8, 1971, his father Dec. 13, 1985 and a brother Gerald.

The son of Marsailus and Jennie Steenhoek Schuttinga, he was born Sept. 4, 1927 in Prairie Van ity, attended Prairie City grade school and was a 1946 graduate of Prairie City Community High School.

He was married to Gladys Louise Den Besten and following her death March 26, 1976 he was married July 29, 1977 to Mary Jane Monster Van Wyk. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily New
