Walter K. Riggs

Graveside rites for Walter K. Riggs, 91, of 2200 N. 5th Ave E., a resident of Newton since 1989, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa.

The Rev. Bill Van Patten, pastor of the Newton Church of the Nazarene, will conduct services.

Friends may call at Wallace Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.

He died Tuesday morning at Careage of Newton of heart failure.

Survivors are three daughters, Bonnie (Mrs. Ed) Bostwick of Sweethome, Ore., Darlene (Mrs. H. G.) Denison of Newton and Margaret (Mrs. Bruce) Bauer of Stillwater, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth, in 1982, a son, Paul, in 1989 and a daughter in infancy.

Mr. Riggs, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, was employed by Northwest Railroad as a bridge inspector until his retirement.

The son of Rob and Bertha Davenport Riggs, he was born April 29, 1899 in Maquoketa and was graduated from Maquoketa High School.

He was married to A. Ruth Manwiller Oct. 14, 1920 in Maquoketa.

Mr. Riggs had resided in a number of town due to his raildroad work. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1990
