'Leonard' Rexroat Services Scheduled Wednesday Morning

Funeral services for John D. "Leonard" Rexroat, 79, of the Jasper County Care Facility and formerly of E. 10th St. S., a lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 1 p.m. today.

Survivors are three sons, Leslie R. of Kellogg, Robert R. of Long Island, N.Y., and Harry J. of Badger; five daughters, Mrs. Colleen Thompson of Newton, Mrs. James (Mary) Thompson of Fremont, Calif., Mrs. Chester (Doris) Hadden of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Julius (Bernice) Tortat of Millerton and Mrs. Virginia Baker of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 45 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Enoch Rexroat of Newton; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Alice) Eaton and Mrs. Vern (Sara) Sparks, both of Newton, and Mrs. William (Helen) Klopping of Garrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in September, 1956, two brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Rexroat, who attended the First Assembly of God Church, was a retired farmer and truck driver and had been a City Cab driver in 1950.

The son of Kemper and Rachel Benjamin Rexroat, he was born Jan. 19, 1899 in Jasper County.

He was married to Jenny Snook Jan. 25, 1921 in Newton.

He died Monday mornig at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1978
