Lucille Mildred Smith, 88, formerly of Colfax, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mingo United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greencastle Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

She resided at Wesley Park Centre in Newton. She was a lifelong Jasper County resident.

She was born on the family farm on May 26, 1919, to Fred and Coral (Signs) Esch. She was their first child. Lucille graduated from Mingo High School in 1930. On Sept. 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to James M. Smith at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Lucille was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church, Mingo Women’s Club and Mingo/Ira Garden Club. She served as a volunteer at Skiff Medical Center in Newton and was a joint owner of a century farm.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; and one brother, Lowell.

Lucille is survived by one daughter, Nancy Lea Moultrie of New Orleans, La.; one grand-daughter, Chandra Joy Moultrie Clark, and her husband Chris of Woodbridge, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Clark II and Amariah Clark; three cousins, Doris Hunter, Darlene De Graff and Geraldine Grovesnor and their families; one nephew, Howard Smith, and his wife Donna; one niece, Kay Secor; and grand-nieces and nephews.
