Mary Ann Shaw, 73, of Newton, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton with the Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Cecil and Margaret (Nelson) McMains, she was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton.

She married William Ward Shaw, Feb. 12, 1955.

She built, owned and was administrator of Careage of Newton for 10 years. She had been the owner and administrator of the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton for many years prior to opening Careage. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one son, Bill (Robin) Shaw of Delafield, Wisc.; one daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Ferguson of Grimes; nine grandchildren, Brianne, Kelly, Sara, Katy, Steph, Bill, Niki, Christina and Jamie; one great-grandson, Declan; two brothers, David (Mercia) McMain and Brad (Betty) McMain, both of Texas; one sister, Candy (Fred) Baltz of Newton; her best friend, Jolane Snodgrass; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 1989; and a sister, Judy Parsons.
