Santen, T. Richard “Dick” 1934-2007

T. Richard “Dick” Santen, 72, son of Thomas and Virginia (Winter) Santen, was born Sept., 13, 1934, in Newton. He went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at the Hospice Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service for his family and friends will be at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.

A lifelong resident of Newton, he graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1952, and later attended a year of college. He was employed at his parent’s grocery store, Santen Grocery. In 1971, he became an insurance agent.

On Feb. 6, 1954, he was united in marriage with Jeanine Hesson in Newton. To this union was born two children; Douglas and Julie. He devoted his life to his wife and family, and was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton and a past President of the Newton Rotary Club. He enjoyed his family, traveling, hiking, golf and all outdoor activities.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jeanine of Newton; his daughter, Julie (Steve) Terlouw of Mt. Horeb, Wis.; his son, Douglas R. (Nancy) Santen of Aurora, Colo.; his four granddaughters: Karen (Paul) McDonald, Laura (Scott) Kincaid, Kristina Santen and Michelle Terlouw; a sister, Betty (Paul) Kemmerling of Surprise, Ariz; a brother-in-law, Marv Weeks of Newton; and his many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Jean Weeks.
