ALTOONA — C. Marty Gilbert, 60, of Altoona, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at his home in Altoona.

No services are scheduled. The Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements. The family will greet friends starting at 3 p.m. Thursday at their home located at 709 Maplewood Court SW in Altoona. Memorials in his name may be sent to Carol Gilbert, 709 Maplewood Court SW, Altoona 50009.

The son of Clifford M. and Alice Lucille (Green) Gilbert, he was born Sept. 29, 1946 in Newton.

He graduated from the Newton Senior High School in Newton in 1964. He was a lifelong resident of Newton until moving to Altoona in 2003. He was united in marriage to Carol A. Snyder on Mar. 17, 1980 in Newton.

He Served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a production worker at the Maytag Company for 14 years, retiring in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; one daughter, Jodi (Brian) Hoover of Pleasant Hill; one grandchild, Brooke Hoover; one aunt, Nellie Davis; and one cousin, Mark Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
