Richard Dean “Dick” Greene, 78, died July 20, 2007, at the Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. July 24 at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. today. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be given in Dick’s name.

Richard Greene, the son of Chester and Louise (Casper) Greene, was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Newton. A longtime resident of the Newton area, he graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1947. He served his country with the U.S. Navy.

On June 15, 1952, Dick was united in marriage with Marilyn Joyce Farland in Unionville, Mo. They had lived in Whittier, Calif., for many years and then Mesa, Ariz., before returning to Newton.

Dick was a maintenance mechanic for Krafts Foods in California for 33 years. He enjoyed his family, Newton sports, wrestling, football and was a member of the Lutheran Church and V.F.W. He was the first Newton High School wrestler to go to the Iowa State Tournament.

Those left to honor the memory of Dick include his wife, Marilyn Joyce Greene of Newton; three sons and daughters-in-law: Regan (Karen) Greene of Mammoth Lake, Calif., Scott (Linda) Greene of Kellogg and Richard (Barbara) Greene of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane (Warren) Depringer of Tacoma, Wash., and Beverly Russell of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
