Lucille I. Cross, 85, of Newton, formerly of Killduff, died Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. The Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie and Chaplain Merle Smith will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery in rural Colfax. Memorials in Lucille’s name may be left at the church or the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, which is in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Clarence and Maggie (Iske) Emmack, she was born June 11, 1921, in rural Jasper County. She grew up in Colfax and rural Colfax. She was united in marriage on June 12, 1940, to Delwin Cross at the Little Brown Church in Nasshua. She then lived in rural Newton and Prairie City before moving to Killduff where she lived for many years. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Newton where she has lived for the last 13 years.

She graduated from Colfax High School in 1939 and received her normal training certificate for teaching. She was a teacher, bookkeeper at Cross Implement and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Richland Grange, also the state and national Grange, a Hospice Volunteer, a Jasper County Museum Volunteer and a member of the Goddard Pinchole Club for over 50 years.

Survivors include three sons, Gary (Marlys) Cross of Cold Spring, Minn., Don (Janice ) Cross and Marty (Deb) Cross, both of Newton; two daughters, Imy (Charlie) Bruce and Mickey (Wade) Van Baale, both of Newton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister-in law, Betty Miller of Urbandale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delwin in 1992; a granddaughter, Cindi Hayslett in 2005; one brother; and one sister.
