Arlan Cunningham, 57, of Newton died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Merle Smith officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, south of Prairie City. Memorials in Arlan’s name, to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home. Wallace Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The son of Earl Scott “Zeke” and Marcella Marie (Spilski) Cunningham, he was born Sept. 21, 1949, in Davenport. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1968 and worked at the Maytag Company for 31 years, retiring in 1999 from the paint department. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Local 997 Retirees Union, American Legion Post 111 and the Moose Lodge. Arlan was a lifelong resident of Newton and the surrounding areas.

Survivors include a son, Kori Cunningham of Newton; a daughter, Mandi Cunningham of Newton; one grandchild on the way; three brothers, twin Alan (Vicki) Cunningham of Colfax, Glenn (Deb) Cunningham of Monroe and Patrick (Kelly) Knowles of Monroe; seven sisters, Naomi (John) Hurst of Davenport, Denise (John) Petted of Colfax, Kathy Miller of Davenport, Sue (Bobby) Schutty of Marion, Marla (Ed) Logue of Mingo, Sally (Alan) Walker of Newton and LaVone Cunningham of Newton; many nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Tanya Cunningham; his best friend for life, Diane Henning; and the Monteleone family.
