Elma Rempp

Elma Schimmelpfennig Rempp, 75, of 717 E. 5th St. N., a resident of Newton for 52 years, died Thursday, June 6, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. to time of service Saturday at the church.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Progress Industries may be left at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Survivors are her husband, Alvin; a daughter, Judy Petersen of Denton, Texas; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Orland Schimmelpfennig of Fairfield and Dale Schimmelpfennig of Ogden, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Rempp, a homemaker and salesperson, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service and had been a member of the Newton chapter 100, Order of Easter Star in Newton for more than 21 years.

The daughter of George and Lena Nickel Schimmelpfennig, she was born March 10, 1916 in Moravia and was graduated from Sigourney Community High School.

She was married to Alvin Rempp March 11, 1939 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1991
