John Retman

DAYTON, Ohio - Memorial services for John "J.R." Retman, 71, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Newton, were held Friday, Dec. 28, at Thillipsburg, Ohio, Airport.

He died Dec. 25 at the Veterans Administration Hospital following a heart attack.

Carrigan and Mains Funeral Home in Englewood, Ohio, handled arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Lois; two sons, Danny of Newton and Mickey of Dayton; three daughters, Patricia Mentzer of Des moines, Diane Retman of Perry and Karen Retman of Dayton, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Also surviving are a siter, Phyllis West of Benson, Ariz.; and two half-brothers, Edwin Widen and Charles Widen, both of Arizona.

Mr. Retman, owner of Custom Aircraft Interiors for 15 years, had retired from the Air Force as a warrant officer after 25 years and had retired from Civil Service for which he had been a bio-medical engineer.

He was a member of the Flying Angels of New Carlisle, Ohio, AOPA and EAA.

The son of Jon Albert and Alma Edward Retman, he was born April 15, 1919 in Dow City. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1990
