David Reese Jr.

David Reese Jr., 49, of 717 W. 3rd St. S., juvenile probation officer for 22 years and also a member of the Alcohol-Drug Center Advisory Committee, died Monday, Aug. 19, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

Mr. Reese, a kidney dialysis patient for 15 years, and his wife, Ramona, were the second family in Iowa to be trained in home dialysis.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. Douglas D. Oelke, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Memorials to the Jasper County Youth Shelter or the National Kidney Foundation of Iowa, will be accepted. They may be left at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, David E. III of Fresno, Calif., and Douglas R. of Kirksville, Mo.; and his parents, David E. Sr. and Agnes Reese of Oskaloosa.

Also surviving are a brother, Jerry Reese of Oskaloosa, and four sisters, Mrs. Andy (Shirley) Cubit of Oelwein, Mrs. Paul (Donna) Bambrook of Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Jack (Dianna) Stout of Oskaloosa, and Mrs. Junior (Cecilia) Van Roekel of Oskaloosa.

Mr. Reese was a member of the First Baptist Church, Iowa Juvenile Probation Officer Association, Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, Drug Task Force Committee, and Child Abuse Consultation Team.

He had been in juvenile work all of his career, starting in Morgan Hill, Calif., in 1962.

The son of David E. Sr. and Agnes Hudelson Reese, he was born Oct. 15, 1935 in Oskaloosa.

Mr. Reese, who served four years in the Navy, was a 1954 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and a 1962 graduate of William Penn College in Oskaloosa.

He was active for many years in amateur boxing and was the Golden Gloves State Champion two years, the 135-pound champion of the Navy Cru Des Pac for 1956 and 1957. He startd the amateur boxing program in both Oskaloosa and Newton.

He was married to Romona (typed as written) C. Haney June 21, 1958 at San Jose, Calif. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1985
