William Reed III

Funeral services for William L. Reed III, 75, of 1102 N. 5th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1933, were held today, Nov. 26, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Jerome Egel, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County will be accepted.

He died Friday evening at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of an aneurysm of the aorta.

Survivors are his wife, Pauline; a son, William R. Reed IV of Blaine, Minn.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde A. of Estherville and James I. of Altoona; and two sisters, Jennie LaMar of Long Beach, Calif., and Freda (Mrs. Stanley) Hunter of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Reed, a tool and die department employee at the Maytag Co., for 33 1/3 years prior to his retirement 10 years ago, was a veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, American Legion Post 111 and Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.

The son of William Howard and Edith Brown Reed II, he was born March 8, 1915 in rural Indianola and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He was married to Pauline Hoff May 3, 1937 in Bethany, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1990
