Howard Trotter

Howard Trotter, 89, of the Ramsey Home in Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died Saturday, April 20, at the home of heart failure.

Graveside rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newton Union Cemetery.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home, preceding the trip to the cemetery.

Survivors are two sons, Kenneth of Newton and Carlton of Windom, Minn.; two daughters, Louise Land of Phoenix, Ariz., and Judity McKay of Johnston; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ione, in 1988 and a son, Dick, in 1988.

Mr. Trotter, a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, had been a farmer in the Newton area and a restaurant owner-operator in Cedar Falls and Des Moines.

The son of William C. and Marilla Jane Coulter Trotter, he was born Feb. 25, 1902 in New Hope, N.D.

He was married to Ione Nelson in 1923 in Missouri.

Mr. Trotter, who had moved to Newton at the age of 15, had farmed in the Newton area for many years prior to moving to Cedar Falls. He returned to Newton and then moved to Des Moines. He resided there until again moving back to Newton and then back to Des Moines in 1988. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, April 1991
