NEWTON, IA. - Dennis H. Troen, 43, of Newton died of a heart attack Friday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Newton. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Troen was born in Newton, where he lived all his life. He was a farmer and salesman for Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed Corn. He was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church and its Men's Club, Laurel Lions Club, and was president of Laurel Gilman Newburg Co-op.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son, Jon of Newton; a daughter, Jaci of Newton; and three sisters, Sandra Hafkey of Raleigh, N.C., Karen Nicklaus of Geneseo,Ill., and Jo Mills of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home here after 2 p.m. today. the family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Dennis Howard Troen, 43, of Rt. 1 Box 386, Newton, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Friday evening, June 8, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Terri Lin Elder, pastor of the Laurel United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in his name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Patricia; a son, Jon Henry, at home; daughter, Jaci Jean, at home; and three sisters, Sandra (Mrs. Jack) Hafkey of Raleigh, N.C., Karen (Mrs. Del) Nicklaus of Geneseo, Ill., and Jo Mills of Broken Arrow, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Troen was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church, former member and president of the board of the Wittemberg Congregational United Church of Christ, president of the Laurel, Gilman and Newburg Co-Op, member of the Laurel Lions Club and Laurel United Methodist Men's Club and was a former member of the Jasper County Extension Council and Jasper County Pork Producers Association.

Mr. Troen, a farmer and salesman for Pioneer Hybred Seed Corn, was a member of the Newton Bowling Association and was an avid golpher, fisherman and bridgeplayer.

The son of Henry Albert and Lenora Evelyn Kuehl Troen, he was born Sept. 4, 1946 in Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University in Ames.

He was married to Patricia Jean Osborn Aug. 20, 1965 in the First Lutheran Church in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1990
