Mary Lou Trent

Mary Lou Dixon Trent, 63, of Rt. 1, Box 134, a longtime resident of Newton, died Thursday evening, Jan. 18, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Congregational United Church of Christ.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Sunday. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials to the Congregational United Church of Christ may be left at the church or the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Donald; a son, Timothy of Newton; a daughter, Sue Coverdale of Newton; three grandchildren; five brothers, Damon Dixon of Newton, Junior Dixon of Unionville, Mo., Virgil Dixon of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and Dorse Dixon and Wallace Dixon, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sisters, Ruby Grass and Juanita Stewart, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister in infancy and three brothers, George, Floyd and Dane Dixon.

Mrs. Trent, a homemaker, was a 40-year member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and a 35-year member of the MNO Club.

The daughter of John and Icy Roush Dixon, she was born July 24, 1926 in Lemons, Mo., and was graduated from Unionville (Mo.) High School.

She was married to Donald M. Trent Aug. 30, 1946 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1990
