Mae G. Toom

PELLA - Funeral services for Mae G. Wise Toom, 85, of Pella, a native of Newton, were held today, March 26, at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Dr. Gary Smith, pastor of the Pella First Baptist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Memorials to the building fund of the Pella First Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Toom died Sunday at the Pella Community Hospital.

Survivors are five sons, John J. of Pella, Donald I. of Dubuque, Marion Jr. of Charter, Va., Robert L. of Pella and David J. of Medira, Ohio; three daughters, Rose (Mrs. Delbert) Alexander of Sauk village, Ill., Helen T. (Mrs. Ralph) Van Der Beek of Des Moines and Dorothy M. (Mrs. Ronald) Grandia of Newton; 35 grandchildren; 49 great-grand-children; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three children, James S., Earl M. and Marjorie E., two sisters, Juanita Wise and Wilma Hartgraves, a brother, Ed Wise, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

The daughter of Jesse and Marie Wise, she was born March 3, 1906 in Newton and attended school in Pella.

She was married to Marion N. Toom July 28, 1921.

They resided in Illinois and Indiana for nine years before returning to Pella in 1932. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1991
