Minnie H. Koppin

Minnie H. Koppin, 97, of rural Newton, died of heart failure Sunday evening, Dec. 29, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jim Olson, pastor of the Zoar Church in rural Newton officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service.

Memorials to the Zoar Church will be accepted.

Born Oct. 17, 1899, in Jasper County, she was the daughter of Herman and Marie Beye Ebert.* She was a graduate of Mariposa No. 9 School.

A lifelong resident of Jasper County she married Walter Koppin Feb 16, 1927, in Newton.

Mrs. Koppin was a homemaker and helped her husband farm until 1963. She was confirmed at the St. John’s Church in rural Newton in 1915 and was a member of the church’s Women’s Guild. She was also a member of the Zoar Church.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law, Goldie Schnell and Florence Koppin, both of Newton and Esther Lincoln of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died in 1983; four brothers and three sisters.

* Note: Minnie Hulda Eilert is her correct name. Her family name is Eilert and not Ebert as stated above.
