GROVE, Okla. - Graveside rites for Alma E. Porter Tratchel, 98, of Betty Anne Nursing Home in Grove, Okla., a former resident of Newton, were held today, March 30, at Newton Union Cemetery.

The Rev. Joseph Babcock, pastor emeritus of the Foursquare Church, conducted services.

She died Wednesday morning at the nursing home.

Memorials in her name will be accepted.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.

Survivors are two sons, Lou Owen Wheeler of Niles, Mich., and Arthur Tratchel of Grove, Okla.; a daughter, Lou Ellen Anderson of Winterset; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, three daughters, two sons, three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Tratchel, a member of the Foursquare Church, owned and operated a boarding house for several years, had worked in the Washer City Cafe and other restaurants and did baby sitting.

The daughter of Andrew Jackson and Henrietta Weaver Porter, she was born Oct. 4, 1891 near Lorimor in Union County.

She was married to Clarence E. Tratchel.

Mrs. Tratchel came to Newton in 1919 where she lived until moving to Grove, Okla., in 1986. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, march 1990
