Harry A. Terpstra

PELLA - Funeral services for Harry A. Terpstra, 79, of Pella, a native and former resident of Jasper County, were held today, July 29, at the Pella First Reformed Church.

The Rev. J. Mark Beach conducted seervices. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Memorials to the American Lung Association may be left at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Mr. Terpstra died Thursday afternoon at the Pella Community Hospital.

Survivors are his wife, Nellie; two sons, Afton E. and Russell L., both of Pella; a daughter, Neola (Mrs. Marvin) Kooyman; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Harley A. Terpstra, and one in infancy, and a grandson in infancy.

Mr. Terpstra was a member of the Pella First Reformed Church and the Pella Saddle Club.

He farmed in the Sully-Killduff area in Jasper County, moving to Pella in 1946. After farming for a short time, he drove a semi-trailer truck for 14 years.

He was employed at the Winpower Co. in Newton and later for 13 years at Rolscreen Co. in Pella. For the past nine years he had been employed at Precision Pulley in Pella.

The son of Adam and Nettie VanderLeest Terpstra, he was born May 8, 1912 in Galesburg.

He attended Christian Grade School in Sully and was baptized at the Sully First Christian reformed Church.

He was married to Nellie Van Kooten Nov. 7, 1930 in Searsboro. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1991
