Carl Terpstra

LYNNVILLE - Carl Terpstra, 80, a lifelong resident of the Lynville area, died Thursday, Feb. 22, at his home in Lynnville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lynnville Friends Church.

The Rev. Kenneth Santee, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Harden Funeral Home in Newton Sharon.

Mr. Terpstra is survived by his wife, Ellen, a resident of Griffin Care Center in Knoxville; a son, Wilbur, of Lynnville; two daughters, Ila Mae (Mrs. Joe) Sprouse of Colfax; and Virginia Woolsey of Monroe; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Anna Olsthoorn of Sully, Wilhemina Monsma of Pella and Wanda Dunsbergen of Lynnville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma May, in 1954, parents, a son in infancy, two brothers, George in 1952, and Dick in 1989, two sisters, Rena Elscott and Pauline Engle, a step-son, Charles Savage in 1959, and step-grandson.

The son of William and Nellie Terpstra Terpstra (typed as written), he was born Aug. 9, 1909, north of Lynnville and attended the Black Oak School.

He was married to Alma May Kingma March 14, 1932 and to Ellen Renaud Savage Oct. 27, 1955 in Little Brown Church near Nashua.

Mr. Terpstra farmed for many years in the Lynnville and Searsbobo areas and later operated an implement dealership in Lynnville. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1990
