Merle Taylor

Graveside rites for Merle Taylor, 77, a former resident of Prairie City, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturady, May 17, at the Griffis Cemetery south of Prairie City.

Following at 2:30p.m., a memorial service will be conducted at the Church of the Brethren, south of Prairie City.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City is handling arrangements.

Mr. Taylor died Nov. 6, 1985 in Arizona.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth; a son, Jerry of Ottumwa; a daughter, Patricia Redenius of Bradgate; five grandchildren; two brothers, Warren of Prairie City and John of Pleasantville; and three sisters, Gertrude Thornton and Ann Buckingham, both of Prairie City, and Dorothy Kaplan of New York State.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Mr. Taylor, a former teacher at the Pleasant Hill School, south of Prairie City, had farmed and been a carpenter in the Humboldt area.

The son of Albert and Gertie Taylor, he was born Sept. 14, 1908 in Bridgeport, Wash. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 15, 1986
