Lulu G. Taylor, Former Newton teacher, Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. William (Lulu G.) Taylor, 89, of Falfurrias, Tex., a resident of Newton for 45 years and a teacher in the Newton Community Schools for many years, were held recently at the First Presbyterian Church in Falfurrias.

Graveside rites were held recently at the Newton Union Cemetery.

The Rev. Frazer Thomason of Des Moines conducted services.

Wallace Funeral Home in Newton handled arrangements.

Survivors are two sons, William of West Covina, Calif., and Robert of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Penly of Falfurrias, Tex.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1934 and two brothers.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First Christian Church and a charter member of the Newton Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution.

She had taughter for 42 years in Iowa schools, including many years in Washington and Woodrow Wilson Elementary Schools.

The daughter of Lewis and Zelda Darland Hedges, she was born Oct. 18, 1888 at New Sharon.

She was married to William Taylor in 1916 at Newton.

Mrs. Taylor moved to Texas in 1954. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1978
