Dwight L. Norton

Dwight Lewis Norton, 83, a former resident of Newton, who had resided with his daughter, Kay Secor of 1033 Virginia St., Waterloo, for five years, died Tuesday morning, March 12, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Greencastle Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Also surviving are three granddaughters; five great-granddaughters; a brother, Clarence "Jack" Norton of Farrar; and a sister, Katherine Law of Alleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Josephine, Feb. 19, 1984, and three brothers.

Mr. Norton, a member of the First United Methodist Church, had been an employee of the Maytag Co. as an inspector in quality control prior to his retirement June 30, 1970.

The son of Cassius and Orabelle Mc Clanahan Norton, he was born May 8, 1907 in Farrar.

He was married to Josephine Smith, June 20, 1934 in Maryville, Mo.

Mr. Norton lived in Colfax prior to moving to Newton in 1950. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1991
