Nita Shaw Nolin, Former Resident, Dies on Sunday

Mrs. John M. (Nita Shaw Phillips) Nolin, 75, of 320 S. W. 42nd St. Des Moines, a former Jasper County resident, died Sunday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregational Church in Mitchellville.

The Rev. Willis Grant, assisted by the Rev. Mary Stringer, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors are her husband, the Rev. John M. Nolin of Des Moines; a daughter, Arlene Joan Phillips Woods of Waco, Tex.; a step-son, John A. Nolin of Springfield, Va.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna S. Grant of Newton and Mrs. Alice S. Mayhew of Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Dr. Frank L. Phillips, a son, Ronald Frank Phillips, two daughters, Sylvia Ann and Gloria Mae, who dies in infancy, and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice S. Bean.

She as a member of the Blairsburg United Church of Christ , Garcia Rebekah Lodge, Chapter KD of the PEO, and a past worthy matron of Mystic Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Nolin worked with the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association as Christmas Seal director until she retired in 1970.

the daughter of W. M. and Ethel Honnold Shaw, she was born Nov. 9, 1902 on a farm near Monroe.

She was a 1920 graduate of Newton Community High School and was a graduate of the University of Iowa at Iowa City and was named to Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honor society.

She was married to the Rev. Mr. Nolin Feb. 7, 1953 in Grinnell. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1978
