Marvin A. Nolin

Marvin Alva Nolin, 67, of 1004 E. 14th St. S., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Sunday evening, Feb. 25, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of complications of liver failure.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Bill Adams, associate pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 am. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to a fund in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Eleanor; two daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. James) Mc Cleary and Marlene (Mrs. William) Ray, both of Newton; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Richard Mc Mahon of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Lydia Nolin, and a brother, Ed Mc Mahon.

Mr. Nolin had been a rhythm guitar player in several Country-Western bands, including the Swing Kings of Newton.

A member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retiress Union, Mr. Nolin had been an employee of the Vernon Co., for 30 years.

The son of Doyle and Elizabeth Mc Cabe Nolin, he was born Nov. 2, 1922 in Newton and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He was married to Eleanor Dray March 11, 1945 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1990
