MONROE - Mabel Irene Nolin, 84, of Monroe, a lifelong resident of the Monroe community, died today, June 4, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe after noon Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Monroe United Methodist Church will be accepted.

Survivors are a brother, Lloyd of Monroe; and 10 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Miss Nolin, a member and officer of the Newton Rebekah Lodge, had taught rural schools in Jasper County and had worked 25 years at PAG in Monroe prior to her retirement.

The daughter of Elza and Anna Dora Haft Nolin, she was born May 18, 1907 in rural Monroe, attended Monroe rural schools, was graduated from Monroe Community High School and attended Central College in Pella, William Penn College in Oskaloosa and Simpson College in Indianola. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1991
