Ray C. Nimmo

Funeral services for Ray C. Nimmo, 85, a resident of Newton since 1944, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Newton First United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Mr. Nimmo died Monday at the Skiff Medical Center.

Survivors are his wife, Cleo; five sons, Kenneth of Omaha, Neb., John of rural Boone, Alan of Chicago, Ill., Joe of Elgin, Ill., and Duane of Glenwood; a daughter, Phyllis Marsh of Upper Marlboro, Md.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Oldham of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Keith, three brothers and three sisters.

A repairman at the Maytag Co., Mr. Nimmo retired in 1967.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. James Nimmo, he was born May 12, 1905 in Marion County.

He was married to Cleo H. Messick April 5, 1932 at Unionville, Mo.

Mr. Nimmo moved to Newton from Monroe in 1944. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
