PAPILLION, Neb. - Col.(Ret.) Kenneth R. Nimmo, United States Air Force, 57, of 6201 Kentucky Rd., Papillion, Neb., a former resident of Newton, died Monday, Sept. 30, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stratgic Air Command Memorial Chapel at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb.

The Rev. Jerry Brown will conduct services.

Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Newton Union Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the SAC honors team from Offutt Air Force Base.

Friends may call at the Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion, Neb., from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reese Funeral Home in Newton.

Memorials to the Kenneth R. Nimmo Schlorship Fund at Iowa State University in Ames will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Sylvia; two sons, Brian and Christopher, both of Omaha, Neb.; a granddaughter; a grandson; four brothers, John of Ogden, Alan of Mount Prospect, Joe of Elgin and Duane of Glenwood; a sister, Phyllis Marsh of Upper Marlboro, Md.; and his mother, Cleo Nimmo of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray, and twin brother, Keith.

Mr. Nimmo, who retired from the Air Force in 1981, was senior vice president, division head and director of the First National Bank of Omaha, Neb.

The son of Ray and Cleo Nimmo, he was born June 8, 1934 in Newton, was graduated from Newton Community High School and Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in chemical engineering and received his master's degree from Texas A and M at College Station.

He participated in football, basket ball and track during his high school years at Newton, was member and captain of the Iowa State track squad and for a number of years participated in the Masters Mile at the Cardinal Relays in Newton.

He was married to Sylvia Weaver March 21, 1959 in Edinburg, Texas. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1991
