Tunis Nikkel Dies at Home; Rites Monday

SULLY - Tunis Nikkel, 75, longtime resident of the Sully community, died Friday evening at his home in Sully.

Services tentatively will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Christian reformed Church, Sully, with a prayer service at 1:15 p.m. in the church basement.

The Rev. Paul Bakker, pastor of the church, will officiate and burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Van Dyke-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is handling arrangements.

Memorial contributionos to the Sully Christian School will be accepted.

Surviving are his widow, Nellie; six sons, James H. of Kellogg, Edward of Grinnell, Wilbur of Prairie City, Leo of Pella, Bruce of Rock Valley and Nelson of Sully; four daughters, Mrs. Fred (Cornelia) Loynachon of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. John (Jennie) Van Maanen of Newton, Mrs. Robert (Harriet) Zylstra of Pella and Mrs. Guysbert (Sylvia) Menninga of Chicago, Ill., 33 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nikkel was a member and former deacon of the Christian Reformed Church, Sully.

The son of Jacobus and Cornelia Roelofsen Nikkel, he was born Oct. 11, 1894, in Eden Gelderland, The Netherlands, and came to the United States when he was 12 years old.

He was married Dec. 23, 1919, to Nellie Stek. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1969
