Paul Nichols

Paul Nichols, 91, of Midtown Apartments, a longtime Newton area resident, died of Alzheimer's Disease this morning, May 9, at the Newton Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Syd McCrorey, pastor of the Newton First Baptist Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Hartford Cemetery.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Newton First Baptist Church or the Newton Help Care Center will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Irene; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Marvin Turley of Newton; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Josephine.

Mr. Nichols was employed for several years by Des Moines Ice and Fuel Co., Rock Island Division, and farmed south of Newton for 38 years.

The son of Tip and Martha Schumire Nichols, he was born Nov. 30, 1902 at Hartford and attended Hartford Community Schools.

He was married to Irene Epps Dec. 3, 1925 in Des Moines.

Mr. Nichols moved to Newton in 1982. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1994
