Brenton E. Nichols

Brenton Edward Nichols, 57, of 2509 S. 8th Ave. E., a longtime resident of Newton, died Friday noon, March 16, at Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of the Ashton Chapel, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Rosemary; a son, Joey of Rt. 1, Newton; four daughters, Brenda Johnson of Altoona; and Connie Jo Nichols, Connie Sue Johnson and Mary Ann Nichols, all of Newton; and three grandchildren.

Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold "Hap" Nichols of Knoxville; two brothers, Leroy Nichols of Knoxville and Gary Nichols of Eugene, Ore.; and a sister, Pat (Mrs. Jay) Doyle of Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Joyce Wickliff, Oct. 27, 1961, and a son, Steven Lee, in infancy.

Mr. Nichols, who had been employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation for 38 years, had worked parttime for the past 10 years as night custodian at Emerson Hough Elementary School.

The son of Harold "Hap" and Mildred Caster Nichols, he was born Aug. 9, 1932 in Flagler and attended Knoxville schools.

He was married to Rosemary Padgett Aug. 11, 1962 in Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, March 1990
