COLFAX - Margaret A. Farver Alexander, 81, a longtime resident of Colfax, died Thursday, Dec. 29, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Colfax.

The Rev. Micheal Orthel, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Friends may call after noon today at the Howard Street Christian Church and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church.

Memorials to the United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Historical Society will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, John; two step-children, Betty Brown of Newton and Jim Alexander of Colfax; a brother, Jim Farver of Newton ; two sisters, Eileen Dunbar of Colfax and Ruth Ryan of Des Moines; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Stewart in 1970, a brother, Arnold Farver, two sisters, Betty Orlich and Doris Mc Vey, and a step-son, Gary Alexander.

Mrs. Alexander was a longtime Colfax beautician.

The daughter of John and Viola Heinzle Farver, she was born March 30, 1913 in Nelson, Neb., and moved to Colfax at an early age.

She was married to John Stewart in 1934 and, after his death, to Howard Alexander in June, 1992. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, December 1994

Margaret A. Alexander, age 81, died Thursday, December 29, 1994 at the Skiff medical Center in Newton. She was born at Nelson, Nebraska, March 30, 1913. She was the daughter of John and Viola Heinzle Farver. She was united in marriage to John Stewart in 1934. He died in 1970. In June of 1992, she was married to Howard Alexander.

Surviving is her husband, Howard, a brother Jim Farver of Newton, two sisters; Eileen Dunbar of Colfax and Ruth Ryan of Des Moines. Also surviving are two step children; Betty Brown of Newton and Jim Alexander of Colfax, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her first husband, parents, a brother Arnold Farver, sisters; Betty Orlich, and Doris McVey and a step son Gary Alexander. Margaret had been a beautician for many years and had owned and operated a beauty shop in Colfax for some time before her retirement. A memorial for the United Methodist Church or the Jasper County Historical Society has been suggested by her family. Services were held Saturday, December 31, 1994 at the First United Methodist Church with burial at the Colfax Cemetery in Colfax. Officiating was Rev. Michael Orthel, organist was Eleanor Howell, Soloist, JoAnn Orthel, hymns, "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Casket bearers were : Jeff Farver, Mark Farver, Larry Dunbar, Steve Farver, Dennis Farver and Preston Brown. ~ The Jasper County Tribune, Colfax Thursday, January 5, 1995
