Pella - Funeral services for Mary J. Mc Cumber Brue, 78, of the Pella Community Nursing home, a resident of Newtno until moving to Pella in 1992, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Dave Lovett, pastor of the Pella Church of the Nazarene, will conduct services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Pella.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Sunday and visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Pella Church of the Nazarene building fund will be accepted.

She died Thursday morning at the Pella Community Hospital of complications following a stroke.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Elmer Van Dusseldorp of Pella; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion Mc Cumber and Fred Mc Cumber, both of Newton; and a sister, Ruby Dow of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Corneal, in 1991, a son, Edward James, in 1972, two grandsons, two brothers, Norman Mc Cumber and Franck Mc Cumber, and a sister, Opal Meador.

Mrs. Brue had been owner/operator of Hesson's Ice Cream Store at the Newton mall until retiring in 1981.

She attended the Pella Church of the Nazarene, and was a former member of the Ikettes and the Newton Shopping Center Tenants Association.

The daughter of Frank and Verna Lutz Mc Cumber, she was born Nov. 3, 1915 in Grinnell and attended Newton schools.

She was married to Corneal Brue April 20, 1935 in Bloomfield. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1994
